A 2021 Fall Starter Pack

Harry Myles

Everything you need to have the perfect fall

There is a slight chill in the air and the leaves have begun to change which means we’re back, baby! It’s fall! Yes, it is finally fall, my favourite season and that perfect transition period from sweltering summer to frigid winter. The air is just cold enough to wear a comfy sweater or jacket, but not too cold that it’s unpleasant to be outside. The trees are showing their true colours and apples and pumpkins are waiting to be picked! Here is a starter pack to jump into that fall spirit and fully embrace the autumnal aesthetic.

Honourable Mentions: existential angst, baggy shapeless clothing, increasingly large scarves, excessive use of leaf puns on social media, pumpkin & apple flavoured everything, and too many acoustic guitars.

PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte)

A classic of the season. Need I say more?

Staring out of the window and watching the rain

Nothing screams fall more than longingly staring outside on a rainy or gloomy day and contemplating life. Add a cozy blanket and a nice cup of tea to complete the picture.

Apple/Pumpkin picking

Be sure to take lots of pictures so everyone knows you ventured to rural Ontario for some ole-fashioned pumpkin/apple picking! Bonus points if your picture includes any of the attire mentioned below.

Flannels

Autumn screams cozy cottage-core and there’s nothing more woodsy than a flannel.

Blundstones/Doc Martens

The fall boot of choice in Toronto, the Blundstone or Doc Marten is both stylish and practical. Your chic feet will be nice and warm while you strut down leaf-strewn streets.

Denim

Even though denim jackets are only warm enough for a few weeks in October before the temperature plunges, they are still a must-have for any fall fit. Better yet, if you can find a lined jean jacket, you’ll be able to wear that baby well into November.

A “woodsy”-scented candle

You’ve got your “pine,” your “oak,” your “cedar,” and so many more tree varieties. My personal favourite is “fig + cypress” from a nifty store in Montreal. Lighting one of these bad boys will transform your room into an autumnal oasis, perfect for reading, tea sipping, or record listening.

Sad indie music

I’m talking about Boy Genius, Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, Clairo, and Folklore and/or Evermore. All that slow indie music about broken hearts and lost love; the perfect soundtrack as you stare out of the window. Lucky for you, UV also has a playlist for these autumn vibes.
