SLS Hal-law-week Rundown

Just treats with this year’s Halloween festivities

Between October 27 and 28, the Students’ Law Society (SLS) put on “Hal-law-week”, which included seven Halloween-themed events and contests for law students at the University of Toronto. These events were intended to stir up Halloween spirit and cheer, and it seems they did just that.

On October 27, a socially-distanced viewing of The Nightmare Before Christmas was held in the Moot Court Room and in the Falconer Solarium. A “Find the Pumpkin” virtual contest was also held where students looked for the hidden pumpkin emoji on the SLS website. On October 28, students came to school dressed in costume as they attended the “Trick or Treat Mixer” where they picked up goodie bags on the Back Lawn and the lawn in front of Falconer Hall.

That evening, the SLS hosted the highly-attended and well-received “Halloween Party” at Love Child Social on Bathurst Street. Students showed up in full costumes, and a photographer was present to capture the whole night.

The SLS also held a virtual “Pumpkin Carving Contest”, a “10-Word Horror Story Contest”, and a “Costume Contest”. Contest winners were announced on November 8, with Jacqueline Ovsenek (1L), Vivian Cheng (3L), and Joshua Crawford (1L) taking first place, respectively. To all those who participated, we hope it was a blast, and a round of applause to the winners.
