Letter From the Editors: In This Issue

Editor-in-Chief

Autumn is in full swing. Classes are ramping up and procrastination can now take the form of frolicking through a colourful campus and sipping warm drinks, unless you’re doing the recruit, in which case “PSL” is not the three-letter acronym most talked about.

In this issue, we reflect on events that have shaped the dialogue at the law school: the recent Kavanaugh appointment (page 8), the ever-increasing tuition (page 5), and the culture of the law school and the legal community (page 11). This month also marks the legalization of cannabis (page 13).

If you’re tired of reading about current issues, join us in taking a look back through our archives with a piece from 1999 detailing the history of some of the physical spaces at the law school (page 9).

This issue also includes anonymous quotes and an anonymously penned piece. Our policy is, and always has been, that sources and writers should be named. However, we recognize that sometimes our sources and contributors face a real risk to damaging their career prospects before they have even started their first legal job. In other instances, they may be sharing reflections of a deeply personal nature that they may not otherwise feel safe to share. Ultra Vires makes exceptions for these kinds of circumstances to allow these voices to be heard. We try as much as possible to limit relying on anonymous sources or contributors and only do so when it is newsworthy and credible.
